Urban Revitalization
Located on Sherman Avenue, the Community 1st Bank project represents the thoughtful transformation of a former 1960s TV and radio station into a contemporary financial institution. This adaptive reuse project focused on modernizing the structure while preserving its urban presence, incorporating both exterior and interior renovations to enhance functionality, accessibility, and aesthetics.
The architectural update introduces a bold material palette, blending weathered steel panels, warm wood accents, and expansive glass storefronts that establish a striking street presence. The rusted steel façade provides a textured, industrial feel that complements the natural patina of time, while large glass openings invite natural light and create an inviting connection to the street. A series of planter-integrated benches enhance the pedestrian experience, softening the building’s edge with natural elements and creating a welcoming streetscape.
Internally, the renovation included a complete interior remodel of the front portion of the building, optimizing the layout for an improved banking experience. The design also prioritized ADA-compliant accessibility, introducing a new exterior ramp and reconfigured spaces to ensure inclusivity. The result is a seamless blend of historic character and modern utility, reinforcing Community 1st Bank’s commitment to both its clients and the evolving downtown landscape.
