Wiggett Building
Coeur d'Alene, Idaho
This adaptive reuse celebrates the building’s original materials—exposed timber, brick, and weathered wood floors—rooting the space in its 1928 origin. Wood-slat wall panels and sliding barn doors add texture and warmth, while clerestory windows draw natural light deep into the interior. These elements create a space that feels both grounded and adaptive, honoring its industrial past while supporting contemporary use.
Framed glass partitions allow transparency between workspaces while preserving acoustic privacy. Structural timber and blackened steel detailing echo the building’s history, with raw finishes left visible as part of the architectural language. Carefully chosen lighting and restrained furnishings soften the space, offering a balanced environment for focused work.
Original brick walls and exposed beams form a tactile backdrop to the modern reception desk of Welch Comer Engineers. Pendant lights and natural daylight emphasize the double-height volume, establishing a warm and professional welcome.
